More information: Because of the increased rate of muon decays and the more demanding goals in systematic uncertainties, the collaboration had to devise improved instrumentation. The kicker that inserts the muons in the storage ring will be entirely new and is optimized to give a precise kick on the first turn only, increasing the stored fraction. The magnetic field will be even more carefully prepared and monitored. The detectors and electronics are entirely new, and a state-of-the-art calibration system will ensure critical performance stability throughout the long data taking periods. New in situ trackers will provide unprecedented information on the stored beam. The first physics data-taking is expected in mid 2017.

Preliminary statistical tests in Microsoft Excel to quality control of chemical-physical measurements. / Test statistici in Excel preliminari alla validazione e al controllo di qualità di misure chimico-fisiche.
Authors: Lanza C.
Abstract: As part of the research contract “Validation and quality control of chemical-physical analysis of compounds that affect the environment and health” between Intertek Italy Spa and the National Research Council (CNR) Pisa 2015, we have developed some software procedures for automatic recognition of large errors (outliers) in chemical-physical measures. Three different types of statistical tests1 were considered: IRQ, Grubb and Hampel test which, together with the normality test, the Chi-square test of Pearson1, contribute synergistically to give more reliability to the subsequent statistical predictions to be applied to numerical series. These preliminary tests, although not visible, have been implemented and made executable in the same Microsoft Excel ® spreadsheets which were stored algorithms responsible for the validation and quality control. An example of measures of a compound of the family of phthalates is described and used to display the effectiveness of these preliminary tests.

Reattore a microonde ad alta pressione.
Authors: Ferrari C., Longo I., González Rivera J., Pardini F.
Abstract: During the period of “Intership research” done by Dr. Jose González Rivera has been devised a chemical reactor for conducting microwave assisted chemical reactions at high temperature (200 ° C) and high pressure (50 bar). The microwave power, up to 300 W, was transmitted through a coaxial dipole antenna, as shown on the CNR patent filed by one of the authors. The reactor allows the magnetic stirring of the sample, the measurement of temperature and pressure and the insertion of the microwave antenna, directly immersed in the reagents through a recess formed by a quartz tube. The reactor was used to make reactions of “cracking” of the cellulose catalyzed by beta-type zeolite.

GEANT4 simulations of the passage of an LPA electron bunch through a vacuumair window and dose deposition in a water phantom.
Authors: Labate L., Di Martino F., Gizzi LA., Giulietti A.
Abstract: Monte Carlo simulations of the propagation of an LPA electron bunch through a vacuum-air window are presented. The bunch features have been chosen according to the latest results obtained at the Intense Laser Trradiation Laboratrory. The simulated setup, including an electron collimator, has been designed in view of a possible application to radiobiological studies. Furthermore, the dose deposition in a water phantom outside the window has been simulated.
